Police training grounds (Punjab)

The sky lit with vibrant glow, the sunlight illuminating with the whole sky as the first rays of the morning filtered through the air. The footsteps of men racing on the tracks echoed on the stadium as fine music.

"Come on, fast", the coach whistled signalling from his hands to the candidates racing infront of him.

It was a police training ground, Where the selected candidates were practicing for their upcoming tests without any rest as the coach instructed them. The men ran endlessly on the track until the sun rose completely.

The clock striked seven and at the same time the coach's whistle rang breaking through the noise indicating end of the early morning session. Everyone dispersed and soon the ground was empty.

A small group of five of them came to the tent they were resting. They grabbed their upper shirts putting them on before each dropping their body to rest for a while.

"Mazak mazak me bola tha police banunga, aur ab pata chal raha hai mazak nahi karna chahiye tha", Neil dropped his head on the floor groaning regretting his life decisions already. Beside him Rajiv snickered saying something similar.

(I had jokingly said that I would become a police officer, and now I realise that I should not have joked.)

"Jaldi se breakfast karlete hai waran woh couch phir se sar par nachega", Tanmay suggested grabbing his shoes to get up first, giving a hand to vikas to help him stand up with him.

(Let's have breakfast quickly or else that couch will dance on my head again.)

One more person was still laying on the mud floor, his arms under his head as he continuosly stared at the top of the tent. His mind calculating through a few situations ignoring his fellow candidates attention on him.

"Yeh toh aise seriously soch raha hai jaise isse abhi IPS bana denge", Tanmay joked wanting to rile him up and get him up so they could go to breakfast soon. He was in tension that canteen will close soon as per the schedule.

(He is seriously thinking as if he will be made an IPS officer right now.)

The person laying on the ground was none other than-Agastya Mishra.

The top tier candidate of IPS training this year.

"Agastya utt yaar. Mai phir se bhuka majdoori nahi kar sakta", Vikas pulled his hand to make him start. He reluctantly stood up, grabbing his shirt from the ground before wearing it on. Just then a authorative voice called from our, "Is Candidate 57. Agastya Mishra Inside?".

(Wake up. I can't do starvation again.)

"Yes sir", Agastya answered stiffly lifting the curtain going out. He saw the chief commander, Mr. Rao standing infront of him.

"Agastya Mishra reporting sir", He with all his demeanor saluted his senior officer. The old office officer smiled just a little in appreciation and recognition, "Agastya, May I talk you alone ?".

"Yes sir, please lead the way", He gave a firm nod falling in step behind the senior officer. They walked towards the forest, stopping infront of the slightly flowing small river.

Agastya folder his hands behind his back, a position of being attentive as he turned to Rao. Rao nodded once before saying the thing he travelled from another state for, "Agastya. I heard you are so capable".

"I hope sir. I still feel I could do much better", he answered sternly making the elder smile at his young passion. "You make me remember my old days, I was so hot blooded too like you right now".

A smile broke into Agastya's lips, he nodded taking in the appreciation.

"Alright let's get to the point", Rao straightened his back turning fully to the young man, his forehead lines now tensed, "I want you to start working on a case Agastya. It's about a infamous don who's been ruling over the Delhi city like he got it in heritance. He had so much of power in that state that he could do a murder in a ground full of people and yet no one will open their mouth as a witness".

Agastya eyes narrowed as he looked down, calculating his moves. Even his training had not been completed to the end. He was still a candidate to be selected as a police officer yet.

"But sir, I think I'm not fit for this yet. There are still four months for my training to be completed. And I have still to be selected as per my ranking and practice", he respectfully and indirectly declined the offer that was thrown in his way. It's not that he was scared to deal with the case, but he wasn't a complete officer yet.

And working early on a project means being biased towards him as it takes years to get assigned for one task in this field. Even though our country is filled with crimes and cases everywhere, the police has their own timing to work on them, not caring about the crime rate that is increasing day by day.

"And sir I don't want you to help me just because I saved your life once. I never did that in greed of something in return. It was purely my duty to protect you that day. Thankyou sir. Have a nice day", Agastya turned to leave making the older man smile at his self respect.

"Agastya", he called out making him stop dead in his track and turning to face him again.

"That's what I expected from you, and I'm not favouring you by giving this case. I'm favouring myself.", he walked towards Agastya keeping a hand on his shoulder looking straight in his grey eyes.

"As much as I have seen this world, I can judge who capable of what. And I find you capable for this case. This is not biasness towards you because you saved me. I had forgot about it a long ago", He patted his shoulder before retreating his hand.

"But why only me, sir? I'm sure our system have atleast a good number of faithful policemen. You are risking your post for assigning me this task", Agastya asked thoughtfully.

"True. But sad to say, a few of them will detor seeing the amount of money and power he'll offer once you try to stop him. I'm not saying they are all wrong, but a few of them have weaknesses even which will make them weak infront of the Vicious man".

Agastya stared at his eyes, still full of unasked questions but he kept quiet, "I choose you because you don't get weak by money, nor power or weakness. I hope you'll prove me right, Mr.Mishra".

"Alright sir, I'll join when you want me to", Agastya exclaimed with confidence and conviction in his tone. They both turned to walk back to the police grounds when rao spoke again.

"In Delhi, my daughter will accompany you for details I'll provide over the time", It was clear the older man was trying to set his daughter with this young man. Ofcourse, who wouldn't want to when He's responsible, honest, loyal, strong and cherry on top belongs to the same field as his, so no doubt he will be able to protect his daughter with no real effort.

Agastya stopped glancing beside me, a smirk curled into his lips, "Sir, I appreciate your approach. But I'm not interested in marriage. I hope you'll keep this professional ".

That's it, Rao laughed freely at the yound man's remark. This was the one of reasons he selected him, because of his sharp wit, and observation and his straight-forwardness.

"Yeah, but I'll still expect you to meet my daughter once if you are in Delhi", Rao turned to him, a silent plea in his tone but that didn't waver Agastya's stern decision on keeping it strictly professional.

He sighed when he got his answer that Agastya would not change his decision. "Alright, young man. I want you to join as IPS on Delhi headquarters by the end of the week".

Four days later...

Monday, Delhi.

Time- 7:55.

Agastya walked out of the domestic terminal, carrying his single bag on his shoulder, his posture stiff and observative. The staff stopped him near the exit for the usual checking process. First the female staff stepped close and used the scanner around his body respectfully and moved back letting the male staff stepped forward.

Agastya lifted his hands, a gesture to let the man continue his work. The man clearly shaken by the handsome man infront of him shivered a little before his hands touched his arms and chest, a little more than needed.

Agastya felt a little odd but however kept silent but his patience broke when the man's hands wandered to his abs and was going to touch his belt. He pushed the man angrily off him,"What the hell? Is this how you treat the travellers. If I see this once more I'll but you behind the bars with no warrant".

The man stumbled back, his mind coming back into sense. He didn't knew what he was doing, he was clearly mesmerized by the way Agastya carried himself, that even being a man his mind drifted to something else, he was thinking about a girl of his dreams.

Agastya turned his back and walked ahead grabbing his bags, the man muttered under his breath looking at his retreating figure, "Yeh male species itne haseen kabse hone lage".

"Jab se tume sare ladkiyon ne reject kardiya", the female staff beside him taunted shaking her head at his antics ,"Toh tum mujhe accept karlo", he replied making her smack his head and go to her work.

Agastya stepped out of the terminal, searching for his name card as Rao sir had told him someone will pick him up and drop him to the delhi police headquarters (PHQ).

Just then his eyes fell on a constable, holding a name plate in his hand upside down and looking here and there. Agastya squinted his eyes to look properly and sighed when made out that it was his name itself.

Throwing his bag on his shoulder, he walked towards the constable. As Agastya was dressed in formals and not in uniform the police officer didn't recognise him. Agastya glanced at the name card of the man before confirming, "Arun Pandey?".

"Yes. You?", he looked confused.

Agastya pulled out his id from the pocket though it wasn't needed and held it up to his eyes, "Inspector Agastya Mishra".

Arun's eyes widened and he quickly stepped ahead taking Agastya's bag, "It's okay I can carry". But arun took it and guided him towards the cab he ordered.

"Good morning sir, How was your journey?", he asked sitting on passenger seat beside the driver as Agastya slid into the back. "I'm not a traveller, Pandey."

"I can call you that right?"

"Yes sir".

Agastya rested his head on the backseat as he looked out of the window at the city, he frowned as the car turned, "Where are we going?".

"To some hotel sir. You can rest before getting started on this mission", Arun smiled looking at him from mirror.

"Turn the car, and take to headquarters", Arun hesitated-ready to argue. "Now". His sharp voice Cut him off and he nodded to driver.

The driver quickly turned the car from a U-turn, driving to PHQ now. He rested his head on the backseat for a while, tried from the journey but that doesn't mean he will waste one complete day in resting like a lag.

He needed to move fast, work fast and leave this city soon. When Rao sir told him that it was Delhi, Agastya was so close to saying no right then and there. But when Rao sir explained why he was needed here, he couldn't step back.

Now when he had vowed to protect, do his duties and respect this country more than anything else, even his comfort.

Suddenly the car came to an halt infront of a four way road, and the traffic lights were turned into red. Every vehicle was in rest position until the lights changed.

But just then a classy, polished sleek black car drove from one side. The way for the car was clear, as if it was the daily routine. The car didn't stop and practically ran at a dangerous speed that was almost illegal considering the traffic rules.

Every other man behind their vehicles stared at the car to go first with more three cars following it like it was a daily ritual of the day.

Ofcourse it was, everyday at 8:10 am.

And the traffic lights was turned red only for that special cars to move first.

Agastya saw it all, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion as he stared at the cars. They looked like they were politician's car but except they wasn't as they didn't have 'on duty' tags on them.

"Pandey, what's happening here?. If there traffic lights are red, then why are these cars moving?", Agastya quickly noted the front black car's number plate as he saw them disappearing into the day.

"It's common here sir", Arun answered with a amused smile earning a glare from Agastya. He chuckled before explaining.

"They are powerful people sir. And the car was passed from front was theirs. And even the traffic lights were specially indicated for them at this time. The traffic rules follows them, and five times in everyday", Arun explained as the way cleared infront of them and the car starting moving again.

Agastya glared at nothing in particular, his mind drifted to thoughts that whoever the person was, is clearly ruling the city in a very wrong way.

"Are they politicians Pandey?"

"No, sir. They are more than that".

Agastya thought for a second and then smirked looking at front. "Do you have contact to the next traffic station after this road?".

Arun glanced confused but nodded and handed him the number when Agastya asked.

Agastya made a call to the officer in charge, "Morning, Inspector Agastya speaking".

The traffic officer on the other side stared confused, because he had never heard this name before so. Understanding the silence he spoke, "I just got transferred, will be opting for the IPS post in an hour".

The officer stiffened, quickly making a salute even when they are in call. Agastya said to the officer and he nodded, "I need you to do something for me".

"Yes sir".

"In a few minutes, a black car will pass through your station. And you have to stop it and make charged on it for breaking traffic rules. And make sure to do it strictly." , Agastya instructed on phone making Arun tense in his seat.

"Sir how would I know the car?"

"Note the number, 1624A7MH".

"Alright sir". The called ended and Agastya relaxed in his seat.

"You shouldn't mess with them, sir. They are dangerous", arun spoke hesitantly. Agastya just hummed closing his eyes, "Wake me once we reach the headquarters".

"Chacha jaldi kijiye. Tommy ka time ho raha hai walk ka", A girl spoke moving her hand through the fur on her dog. She was the one, to whom the sleek black car belonged to. And she's the one who was breaking the rules as if eating a breakfast daily.

(Uncle, hurry up. It's time for Tommy to go for a walk.)

"Chala toh rahe hain hum, bhatiji. Jald hi pahunch jayenge", her uncle who sat on the front seat with driver said smiling at her affection for the dog.

(We're on our way, niece. We'll be there soon.)

"My baby is getting late for his morning walk", she pouted caressing her dog, who was the least interested in moving let alone walking.

This girl daily wasted the city people's early in the morning daily just to get her dog to the garden, which wasn't even as important as children who got late for their school, employees who got late for work and got scolding, public transports that had to work on time and everything else.

And she never cared, not because she didn't have a heart to care. But because she wasn't raised to care for someone. Not when, when she was surrounded by a Don family from her childhood with no mother or any woman in her family.

This girl was..... Shivika Dubey.

The only daughter of the most wanted don in the whole Delhi or maybe more.

Her car and the following cars passed from first four way road, where the traffic officer had let them go as usual.

And a few minutes later, the car were driving to the nest traffic station. The officer who was instructed by Agastya quickly closed the toll gate after noting the car plate number from cctv footage.

The black car halted with a sharp jerk as the body of car was in high speed. Shivika and her Uncle, Singhal jerked front with the sudden halt.

Singhal quickly turned to his niece first, "Bhatiji tu thik toh hai na?".

"Ji, chachu. What happened?", She looked at ahead from the mirror, that two police officers and one traffic officer blocking their way.

She squinted her eyes, keeping her dog aside ready to climb down of car. Her anger already reaching it's peak at the interruption.

"Bhatiji, I'll handle it", Singhal said getting down of the car.

A few minutes later he came back into the car, and turned to see shivika, "They are not listening. They will charge us penalty".

Shivika smirked grabbing her bag and taking out her phone and scrolling through it casually, "Pay them penalty, chacha".

She smiled too sweetly looking down and singhal immediately knew she had something planned in her devilish mind, "I'll make them pay their penalty later today".
